GPS Vehicle Tracking Assisting the Government
GPS vehicle tracking
devices are a technological advancement that has done more than simply assisted businesses and citizens in tracking their personal property. Many businesses have benefited from GPS tracking devices through more effective vehicle tracking on their company cars. Thus, it has enabled many businesses to hold their employees accountable when driving their vehicle fleet for business purposes. However, these devices have also assisted government authorities in a number of ways as well.
The government had suspected a Maryland nightclub owner of drug trafficking. Police officers obtained a warrant to place a
GPS vehicle tracking
device on the man's car. 11 days after obtaining the warrant, the authorities placed the tracking device on the wife of the man's car, as was permitted in the warrant that they had obtained. However, it was placed on the car in Washington D.C.
For 28 days the government tracked the vehicle. The device allowed the eventual indictment and conviction of the man they had been tracking. While there were a few issues related to this case, it shows the capabilities that a vehicle tracking device has. Not only did the device allow authorities to effectively track the vehicle, but it also led to a conviction as well.
This isn't the first time a government implemented GPS tracking technology to assist their procedures. Convicted criminals who are put in supervised programs have been restricted with these devices to properly track their whereabouts. Just recently in Queensland a convicted criminal was at large after he fled from his transitional housing. Yet the local authorities were able to track down the man and successfully apprehend him.
There are a number of benefits to local governments using
GPS tracking devices
. As technology continues to advance, the abilities for tracking are sure to increase. For now GPS vehicle tracking will continue to assist government authorities in tracking suspects successfully.
